The plug that fits without measuring
Replacement plugs usually fail for one reason: the thread. A plug that is meant to screw into a particular waste fitting will not seal in a different one, and the fittings vary by brand and by decade.
These are not threaded. They seal by pressure against the inside wall of the drain, and the four ribs compress to take up the difference. That is why one plug covers most tubs, basins and utility sinks.
Where it fits
- Bathroom basins with a standard 35–45 mm waste opening
- Bathtubs with a push-fit or lift-and-turn waste
- Utility and laundry sinks
- Any drain where the original plug has been lost and the thread is worn
Where it does not
It is not a pop-up assembly replacement. If your basin has a metal pop-up rod behind the tap, this plug sits in the drain but you will lose the pop-up action — you lift it out by hand instead. It also will not work in a drain with a wide decorative grate, or in a toilet.
Using it
Wet the plug, press it in with a slight twist, and let the ribs seat. To release, pull the stem. Silicone grip fades if it is left to collect soap scum, so rinse it monthly and it keeps sealing.
Frequently asked
Will it hold a full bathtub?
Yes. The seal is made by water pressure pushing the ribs outward, so it holds better as the tub fills.
Two in the pack — why?
Because people lose them, and because one sink always ends up needing it more than the one you bought it for.
